Oral Surgery

Wisdom Teeth Removal

At Antrim House Dental Practice we are very pleased to be able to work with a highly experienced and skilled dental practioner with special interest in oral surgery. We are able to offer bespoke oral surgery treatments whether you need a simple tooth extraction or more extensive procedures.

Wisdom teeth removal is the most common surgical procedure carried out in the UK. This is usually because the wisdom teeth can come through at the wrong angle, this causes the tooth to not be able to fully erupt. Food can therefore easily get trapped in the area and they are difficult to clean. This can lead to decay, gum disease and infection.

How it Works

Our process makes achieving your beautiful smile simple.

01

Inital Consultation

Before your procedure our friendly associate dentist will give a free telephone consultation to talk you through the treatment options and explain the procedure, they will also be able to answer any queries or concerns you have before coming in for treatment. Before any extraction an x-ray will need to be taken to assess the roots of the teeth and surrounding bone.

Our special interest oral surgeon is particularly good dealing with anxious patients and prides themselves on making even the most nervous of patient feel relaxed.

02

Extraction Procedure

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic – your dentist will always ensure you feel no pain during the extraction although feeling a pressure sensation is very normal. The extraction itself can take anything from 5 minutes up to 20 minutes, sometimes longer depending on how many teeth are being removed and how complex the extractions are. We will always make sure patients are comfortable throughout.

03

Post-op Healing

After a wisdom tooth extraction, it is normal to have some post-op discomfort and possibly some swelling. This can be said for any dental extraction. Very occasionally there may be some slight bruising in the area afterwards. These symptoms are usually worse for the first few days after the procedure but can last up to a couple of weeks. If you have any problems or concerns after extraction, we are always here to help, just give our reception team a call and they will be happy to advise or book you an appointment as soon as possible.

04

Follow Up Consultation

A follow up call will be made 2 weeks following extraction to ensure patients are happy with healing progress and to see if there any concerns.

Oral Surgery

What other procedure do we offer at Antrim House Dental?

As well as teeth extractions, some other minor oral surgery procedures we are able to offer are:
Crown lengthening surgery is a surgical procedure to expose more of the tooth that is beneath the gum. This procedure is normally performed to make it easier to place a filling or crown.
Frenectomy - A Frenum is a fleshy piece of soft tissue or muscle connecting the cheek, lips or tongue to the jawbone. Sometimes a frenum might be too short, thick, or tight, or may extend too far down along the tongue or the gum. This can cause issues with tooth alignment or can restrict the movement of the tongue or lips. A frenectomy procedure can correct this problem.
An operculem is a flap of excess tissue covering a partially erupted tooth, usually a wisdom tooth. This piece of tissue can be particularly difficult to keep clean, food debris can easily become trapped underneath causing inflammation, pain and infection. An operculectomy is the surgical removal of this tissue, therefore making the area easier to keep clean and prevents further pain and infection. Your dentist will tell you if an operculectomy is the best option for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have listed some of the most frequently asked questions surrounding Extractions & Oral Surgery
The cost for an extraction ranges from £200-£300 depending on the complexity of the extraction.
Each treatment plan is tailored to each individual need – meaning there is not a standard answer to this. Prices can vary depending on how many implants are needed, the complexity of individual case and the type of restorative work used after implant placement (crowns/dentures etc).

We don’t want cost to be an obstacle to our patients looking to achieve their smile goals. We are happy to offer a 0% payment plan over 12 months though our trusted finance partner. Many patients feel that the benefits of dental implants far outweigh the costs – not to mention with proper care dental implants can last up to a lifetime!
