What is Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding is fast becoming one of our most popular cosmetic dental treatments. And it's no surprise…this is a non-invasive, fast and effective way to transform your smile. It offers immediate results with no recovery time!

We are able to improve the appearance of an array of different dental problems including chipped, cracked or discoloured teeth. Composite bonding can also be used to close small gaps between teeth or to restore lost tooth structure.

Inital Consultation

After initial consultation, the treatment itself is usually carried out in one appointment. The length of this appointment will depend on how many teeth are being treated.

Preparing The Teeth

Composite bonding can normally be carried out without the need of any local anaesthetic injections. We only need to prepare the teeth very minimally. A thin layer of etchant gel is applied to microscopically roughen the tooth surface; this helps the resin material bond to the tooth more securely.

Application

The next step is to apply a coating of bonding liquid - this is essentially the glue the adheres the resin to the tooth surface. Once all of these preparations are complete, your dentist can begin to carefully hand sculpt the composite resin onto your teeth to create the perfect shape. This is set immediately using a UV light.

Shaping Your Smile

Once fully set, the final step is more precise shaping and polishing to achieve a natural look that blends in with your smile. The procedure usually takes around an hour, but can be longer if you are having more than one tooth treated.
