Dermal Fillers

If you want to be discreet about getting fillers – just say you are going to see the dentist!

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are designed to effectively reduce the appearance of unwanted wrinkles, contour the face, create volume, and revitalize the skin. Dermal fillers are based on Hyaluronic acid which is a substance that naturally exists in your body. It is a soft, injectable gel that is specially formulated to be tissue-friendly and closely resembles the hyaluronic acid that naturally exists in our bodies.

What to expect

We have outlined the 3 step proccess to having dermal filler treatment below.
Firstly, we will get you booked in with one of our expert dentists qualified in administering dermal fillers. Before your appointment, it is a good idea to make note of any questions or concerns you may have about treatment so we can answer these for you. During your consultation we will discuss:
  • Your medical history including any medications you are currently taking
  • Your facial aesthetic goals
  • Answer any questions or concerns you may have
  • Discuss treatment options available to you
  • Potential risks
  • Expected results of treatment
During this appointment your facial appearance and skin will be thoroughly examined to ensure you are suitable for treatment. Your dentist may even ask to take some “before” photographs so you are able to see how the treated areas have been enhanced.
Once you have agreed a treatment plan with your dentist, we will book you an appointment to start placing the fillers. Injection sites will be cleaned using antibacterial wipes, we can even apply some topical anesthetic gel to numb the surface of the skin to make injections more comfortable. Patients typically do not report pain during treatment, but please do tell your dentist if you become uncomfortable.

The treatment usually takes anywhere from 15-60 minutes depending on the amount of areas being treated. The injections themselves only take a few seconds and are placed very carefully with a fine needle to keep discomfort to an absolute minimum. Once the filler is injected, your dentist will massage the area. They will assess as they go and top up as needed depending on your treatment goals.

If you and your dentist are happy with what has been achieved during this appointment, you are ready to go! Any marking that have been made prior to placing the injections will be cleaned. We may place something cold to the treated areas to aid swelling.

You can generally resume your usual daily activities straight away, there may be some soreness but usually there is no need to take painkillers. This should settle after a few days. You will only need to avoid things like intense physical exercise for the first couple of days to minimize swelling and bruising. Your dentist will go through the specifics of your recovery depending on the type of treatment you have had.

Results of dermal fillers are seen almost immediately. The results are long-lasting but not permanent; however, we usually expect them to last anywhere between 6-12 months. This can vary from person to person and depend and the type of injection used. Please bare in mind that it may not be possible to achieve your aesthetic goals in one appointment, it is possible you may need top up appointments.
