What Are Dentures?
If you are missing one or many of your teeth, dentures may be the ideal solution for you. Dentures can get you smiling with confidence again. Our dentists work closely with expert dental technicians to design a denture that is well-fitting, comfortable and beautifully natural-looking.
Different Types of Dentures:
Partial Dentures are used for those who have natural teeth still remaining. We have a range of different materials and shades we can use to replace missing teeth to restore your smile to how it once was. For extra stability, clasps can be added so the denture clicks in around your natural teeth for support.
Full/complete dentures are used for those who are missing all of their natural teeth. Losing all of your natural teeth can cause the face to appear sunken in which unfortunately can make a person look older. Wearing full dentures not only helps bring back your smile and enables you to enjoy eating again, it can also give your face a more youthful, fuller look. A full denture relies on suction for it to stay firmly in place, your dentist will work closely with expert dental technicians to achieve the best possible fit. Sometimes patients also like to use a denture fixative for extra security. With proper care and maintenance, dentures can last 5-10 years, sometimes longer.
Sometimes called “clip in dentures”. By placing implants into the jaw bone, instead of relying on suction, clasps or denture fixative, the denture is able to actually “click” very firmly into place.
Types of Dentures We Offer
At Antrim House Dental Practice, we have three different options for you to consider when you are thinking of going ahead with a denture
Arcylic Dentures
The most common material used in making both full and partial dentures. Acrylic is a plastic material that can be easily moulded and adjusted meaning this is a good option if the denture is likely to be altered over time.
Cobalt Chrome Dentures
Cobalt chrome is a strong, light-weight, medically approved metal alloy. It is typically used in making partial dentures. Only the frame work of the denture is made from metal, the teeth are still made from natural looking acrylic. Compared to an acrylic denture they are less bulky meaning they are a particularly good option for patients who have a strong gag reflex. They are also stronger meaning they are less likely to break. One of the very few downsides, however, is that is can be difficult to add teeth on if needed in the future.
Valplast® dentures
Valplast (sometimes referred to as a flexi-denture) are made from a nylon-based material, this makes them free of monomer, lightweight and thin. Their flexibility along with these key features make these dentures particularly easy to adapt to. The flexibility of the nylon material makes them virtually unbreakable. Valplast is used in the making of partial dentures. Their flexible, translucent clasps allow the denture to blend into your natural smile and remain undetectable to others.
